Bad Bunny to headline Super Bowl, after avoiding US stages over ICE fears

Bad Bunny is set to take the Super Bowl stage, headlining the iconic halftime show. The Puerto Rican star and three-time Grammy winner will perform on Feb. 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, NBC, the NFL, Roc Nation, and Apple Music announced Sunday.

“What I’m feeling goes beyond myself,” Bad Bunny shared in a statement. “It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown . . . this is for my people, my culture, and our history. Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el HALFTIME SHOW DEL SUPER BOWL.”

Bad Bunny, who has long foregrounded his Puerto Rican roots in his music, has been vocal about foregoing mainland U.S. tour dates out of concern that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) could raid concert venues. “People from the U.S. could come here to see the show. Latinos and Puerto Ricans of the United States could also travel here, or to any part of the world,” he told i-D magazine. “But there was the issue that … ICE could be outside [my concert venue]. And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about.”

The announcement comes after a series of career milestones: the January release of his sixth solo studio album, “Debí Tirar Más Fotos,” a sold-out, 30-show residency at San Juan’s Coliseo de Puerto Rico; and a livestreamed final residency show at El Choli that broke Amazon Music concert viewership records on Twitch. He previously appeared at the 2020 halftime show as a guest alongside Shakira and Jennifer Lopez.

The news drew praise from public figures, including Jennifer Lopez, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and Bruno Mars, who wrote on X, “Go get em Bad Bunny!” Roc Nation chairman Jay-Z said in a statement, “What Benito has done and continues to do for Puerto Rico is truly inspiring. We are honored to have him on the world’s biggest stage.”
