According to a bombshell new report from the New York Times, Donald Trump has a desperate, Hail Mary plan for his 8-month-and-counting war with Iran in the immediate aftermath of the US midterm elections, and it’s not good.
Inside sources spoke with the outlet and claimed that the US and Israeli militaries are both drawing up plans to escalate the ongoing war to new, more severe heights in November, with plans to attack Iran’s energy infrastructure, nuclear facilities, and weapons arsenal. The report further confirms that heavily embattled Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has already met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss these impending strikes, as both militaries have begun conducting exercises over Iraqi airspace in preparation.
Officials within the Trump Administration are of the belief that the renewed and increasingly vicious attacks will finally be effective at bringing Iran’s economy and, therefore, its leadership, to its knees and finally bring an end to the war that the president claimed would only last a few weeks, which is now raging well into its 8th month with no conceivable end anywhere in sight.
However, the experts simply do not agree.
Biden-era Pentagon Middle East policy official Dana Stroul told The Times:
At this point in the war, what is clear is that the conventional military campaign waged to date, and the current punishing economic sanctions and American naval blockade, have not brought the regime back to the negotiating table in a meaningful way.
She added that neither Donald Trump nor Benjamin Netanyahu “has made a compelling case for how more war would change this strategic dilemma in an increasingly unstable and conflict-ridden region.”
Earlier this month, Donald Trump published a Truth Social post, in which he vowed that “we will not be attacking Iran at any time prior to the Midterm Elections.”
Meanwhile, Pentagon officials are being left with “day-to-day whiplash” as the president can’t seem to decide what he’s actually going to do in Iran from one moment to the next, barking orders in one breath only to turn around and retract them in the next one — all while the American people continue to suffer under the brutal economic consequences of his choices.
