Donald Trump is holding a midterm convention from September 9-10 in Dallas, Texas, designed to make the president the star and centerpiece of the two days. So far, the official website’s potential speaker list is dominated by Trump family members and Trump administration officials.

You would be forgiven if you had forgotten that this event existed, because it has gotten virtually no attention, and Democrats knew better than to schedule a midterm election convention of their own, because they understood that it is a better use of time for Democratic candidates to be out campaigning for the seats that they are trying to win, instead of sitting around for days at a convention.
The usual suspects will be in Dallas. Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune will be there. Texas Republicans like Gov. Greg Abbott, Sen. Ted Cruz, and Senate candidate Ken Paxton will be there.
It was previously reported that Trump may give himself the headlining speaker spot on both nights of the convention, which will end the night before events marking the 25th anniversary of 9/11, which Trump will not be attending in New York.
The convention is shaping up to be a debacle on par with Trump’s botched 4th of July celebration.
