Michael Madsen, the gravel-voiced actor best known for his roles in Quentin Tarantino films like “Reservoir Dogs” and “Kill Bill,” has died. He was 67.
Madsen was found unresponsive Thursday at his home in Malibu, California. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities. The cause is believed to be cardiac arrest. No foul play is suspected.
Madsen rose to fame as Mr. Blonde in “Reservoir Dogs” (1992), delivering a chilling performance that became one of the most iconic in indie film history. His character’s dance to “Stuck in the Middle with You” during a torture scene cemented his place in pop culture. He went on to work with Tarantino in “Kill Bill: Vol. 1” and “2” and “The Hateful Eight.”
Over four decades, Madsen appeared in more than 300 film and television projects. Known for his tough-guy persona and commanding presence, he was often cast in crime dramas and neo-noir thrillers, but also found roles in comedies and independent films.
In addition to acting, Madsen published several books of poetry and was a father of six. He remained active in recent years, with roles in upcoming films including “Resurrection Road” and “Cookbook for Southern Housewives.”
His death comes just over two years after the loss of his son, Hudson Madsen, a U.S. Army sergeant who died by suicide in 2022.
Madsen’s management called him “one of Hollywood’s most iconic actors.” Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
