DeGeneres backs O’Donnell in Trump feud

Ellen DeGeneres knows the enemy of her enemy is her friend.

The talk show host has avoided the spotlight since her long-running talk show petered out amid a workplace scandal. She stuck her neck out on Sunday for an unlikely ally, fellow former chat show head Rosie O’Donnell. DeGeneres and O’Donnell have a strained history that goes back decades, but she backed her daytime compatriot in her ongoing tiff with President Donald Trump on Sunday.

“Good for you,” she wrote on Instagram, alongside screenshots of the recent back-and-forth between Trump and O’Donnell.

The president’s animus toward O’Donnell also stretches back decades. He recently threatened to revoke O’Donnell’s U.S. citizenship.

“Because of the fact that Rosie O’Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship,” Trump wrote on Truth Social over the weekend. “She is a Threat to Humanity, and should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”

O’Donnell, who currently lives in Ireland, responded with a photo of Trump with sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.

“18 years later and I still live rent-free in that collapsing brain of yours,” she wrote.”You call me a threat to humanity –
but I’m everything you fear:
a loud woman
a queer woman
a mother who tells the truth
an American who got out of the country b4 u set it ablaze.”

DeGeneres and O’Donnell’s feud has rarely spilled over into public snarking and social media clapbacks. In a recent interview with Us Weekly, O’Donnell said she was loathe to speak ill of another gay comedian. Still, O’Donnell readily admits that there have been tensions.

“We have had some stuff in the past that we never resolved. And not in any way as, as partners or lovers or anything like that, just as friends and comedians, but I wish her the best,” she said. “I seriously do. I think that there’s enough room in the world for all of the gay comedians.”
