Rep. Tom Emmer lied about food costs when asked on Fox Business to deliver a Republican national message to counter complaints about data centers and the high cost of food heading into the midterms.
The Fox host conveniently did not ask about the skyrocketing diesel and gas prices because of Trump’s war with Iran, which is creating another financial burden for the working class.
Rep. Emmer cherry-picked two products, lied about one of them, then switched to a single jobs report to deflect criticism of Trump’s economy.
HOST: So how do you manage the national message versus local issues, like, I don’t like the data center now in my backyard, or my grocery bill still feels too high.
That seems, housing’s unaffordable, and that’s sort of that local issue.
How do you balance those?
EMMER: First, it’s funny, people, when they’re asked, do not like Congress.
But when they’re asked about their member of Congress, they absolutely love their member of Congress.
First, you have to look at that.
No, we don’t. Likeability does not pay for baby formula or a full tank of gas.
“Second, with groceries, for instance, you got to start talking about we still have work to do, there’s no question,” he admitted.
“But eggs are at pre-pandemic prices,” he said.
Eggs are the only product Republicans squawk about because almost everything else has risen under Trump’s crazy and illegal policies.
Then Emmer pulled a figure out of his ass.
“Beef is at less than $2 a pound for ground beef,” Emmer replied.
Using the Google machine, today’s cost for ground beef is roughly $6.90 per pound. That’s almost seven fucking dollars! If Emmer held a town hall today and made that claim, angry constituents would run him out of the building.
With no hope for a positive Republican message on food and fuel, Emmer changed course.
EMMER: You got to start focusing on the fact that billions of dollars are being pumped back into this economy. You got to look at that jobs report from a week ago where it was three times higher than anything they expected.
And by the way, it was not for gig jobs, jobs for DoorDash, Uber.
It was for high-paying, benefit-providing, high-tech jobs, manufacturing jobs.
So then you got to focus on, we lowered your taxes, we sealed the border, you got to talk about the things you have done.
I think we’ve got a lot to run on.
Republicans lower taxes for the very wealthy. They are the only segment of the population that has benefited from the One Big Ugly bill.
The Fox host did not ask Emmer about a jobs report, the border, or the Ugly bill.
Emmer forgot to mention that the July jobs report was horrible.
Rep. Emmer has no good thoughts or prayers to run on.
Republicans have no true message to campaign on for November’s midterms, so they are just making sh*t up.
